Rosudgeon Farm and Prussia Cove- a great place for wildlife
Rosudgeon Farm houses are the perfect place to get away from it all and enjoy the countryside. Set in a rural landscape and surrounded by farmland, the land around the cottages attracts a great diversity of wildlife. Set within the Cornwall Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the cliffs and surrounding heath are important for wildlife and for their landscape value. The cottages are a wonderful location to birdwatch. Regular visitors to the surrounding fields include oyster catchers, curlew, buzzards and sparrowhawks. Barn owls are also common in the area and can be heard calling most nights. Although choughs are still re-establishing themselves in Cornwall and are predominantly found on the Lizard, a small number have also been spotted near the nearby Praa Sands and on Trevean Beach. The large Foxes and badgers can also be seen hunting in the surrounding fields and are also regular visitors in the gardens. We are very keen to encourage wildlife and there is a pretty wildflower meadow adjacent to the properties, where many small birds, butterflies and mammals can be seen. The area is surrounded by a number beautiful of beaches and cliffs. A small colony of seals can be seen all year round in Prussia Cove and from Trevean Beach, often calling to each other during the breeding season (autumn / winter). Whilst you are enjoying the fantastic coastline, keep a good eye out for the countless number of waders, egrets and even gannets. Cornwall is one of the best places to view basking sharks in the country and groups of 5 and over have been spotted during the summer months very close to Cudden Point. Sunfish have also been spotted in large groups just off of nearby Lamorna Cove. Many boat tours can be taken from Penzance that will explore the coastline. Definitely a place for binoculars and remember to pack your camera! |
