The Shippen is a single storey stone building
and was, as its name indicates, the home of the farm cattle – the
cow on the roof is a reminder of this. It has been converted
to a modern comfortable home with views down the valley via
a patio towards Mounts Bay and The Lizard.
Inside:
The main living area is open-plan with stone walls and a high
beamed ceiling. It contains comfortable furniture and has a
wood burning stove, television and DVD player. The flooring
is varnished planking as is the hallway and bedrooms. The kitchen
and dining area has been laid with the original slate walls
of the byre and several of the original fixtures have been
retained.
The main bedroom has a pine double bed, dressing table, chest,
built-in wardrobe and hairdryer. There is an en-suite with
shower unit.
The other two bedrooms have twin pine beds, wardrobes and
chests.
The separate bathroom is tiled with bath, shower, W.C. wash
basin and hand dryer.
Outside:
The building can be entered from the original farmyard or
the side patio.
The patio extends on two sides and there are steps to a high
level lawn and private, peaceful garden. The garden is equipped
with furniture, rotary clothes line and a barbecue.
The lane past The Shippen leads to the Donkey Field where
there is a gate giving a short cut for walkers down to the
valley footpath but a good eye should be kept open for the
cattle especially if there are calves and dogs should not be
allowed in these fields if this is the case.
General information:
The kitchen and bathroom have extractor facilities. Heating
is by electric storage and mobile heaters.
